There is a lot of talk recently about the need to equip Christians with answers for the questions and challenges of our times. Obviously, with the seismic cultural shifts that are occurring, Christians need to be educated across a variety of subjects in order to respond biblically. This not only takes effort on behalf of the pastors and teachers of the faith, it also takes effort on behalf of each individual believer. When you consider the number of hours spent on media alone, which often presents content with clearly anti-Christian bias, it will take prayer, diligence, and a faithful witness to have our voices heard and respected in the marketplace of ideas.
Yet history proves that it is possible.
Pure Flix considers it an honor and a mission to change the culture for Christ globally. Though in the entertainment business, we are also in the Kingdom business. Yes, we make movies. Yes, we distribute faith and family friendly fare. But that is not all we do: We also equip believers while we entertain them. And we reach those who have questions and are searching; a group that we know watches our films.
So while church leaders gather strategies to educate and equip their congregants, we hope Pure Flix is considered a partner in that endeavor.
We overtly share the Gospel message, not just an inspirational one, and we clearly present the fruit of the Christian life. For example, in our latest theatrical releases we have proven the existence of God (God’s Not Dead), the power of the cross to change lives (Do You Believe?), the power of the Gospel to heal racial divides (Woodlawn), and the facts of the historical Jesus and the validity of the Gospels (God’s Not Dead 2, which opens in theaters nationwide on April 1, 2016).
With these resources, we hope leaders will see that educating and equipping believers while entertaining them isn’t only possible, it taps into today’s media-watching trends. At the same time, we counter the false messages with the truth while playing on the same field. Consider this statistic: In the USA, far more people go to the movies than attend sporting events or theme parks combined. With facts like these, media is an arena that must not be abandoned.
