If you read any newsfeeds, you would think that there is no reason to be hopeful about the future. Nearly everything reported sounds dire, negative, fractured, and desperate. However, as I travel, I have a different perspective. And it gives me hope.
In recent months, I have had the opportunity to meet with leaders of denominations and organizations that are actively seeking ways to reach the hurting and heal families and communities. It is a daunting undertaking, requiring unwavering commitment, yet it is a vision that attracts doers. And even in a time of hostility to the Gospel message, the positive effects of their actions are drawing recognition.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. ~Romans 12:12 (ESV)
For those who want to make a difference, hope (in Christ), patience, prayer and steadfastness are all necessary attributes. These aren’t just requirements for leadership, but for people of faith who desire to bring the assurance of true hope to seemingly hopeless situations.
Because of our involvement with various youth groups across the country, I find the teens particularly burdened by the contentious discourse and negative influences around them today. However, instead of bemoaning the direction of the culture, it’s better to be bearers of Good News by offering hope as an answer to disappointment, disillusionment and doubt. It’s not an easy task, and there is plenty of resistance, but we still must encourage those who feel hopeless that there is a better way and a brighter future ahead.
This weekend, I’m Not Ashamed, the true story of Rachel Joy Scott (the first Columbine victim), will release nationwide. It is our prayer that her life will bring inspiration and hope to others who face challenges in living differently from their peers. And in order to reach them where they congregate, which is in the digital arena, the I AM HOPE mobile app will offer additional, ongoing encouragement.
If you have a heart for those who are struggling with hopelessness, help us spread the word by directing them to the I AM HOPE campaign at the link below:
To download the mobile app, please just go to the app store and type in I AM HOPE.
